Four degrees and the title “Prof.”
Military Science, law, a doctorate and history: an academic record built up over three decades, much of it while he held elected office. Alongside it sit two careers outside politics, one in the police and one teaching at Agra College.

The degrees are listed in his Lok Sabha profile. The years and institutions come from his sworn election affidavits, filed with the Election Commission and published by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

His 2009 and 2010 affidavits also list a B.Sc. but give no year or institution, so it is not included in the transcript.
Reading the record
The sequence is unusual for a working politician. The doctorate was completed in 2004, the year he won his third consecutive Lok Sabha term. The M.A. in History came in 2013, while he was a member of the Rajya Sabha. The first degree, in Military Science, sits naturally beside the police career that preceded politics. The law degree came 34 years before he became Union Minister of State for Law and Justice in 2021.
The academic title has stayed with him throughout. Election Commission results list him as “Professor S.P. Singh Baghel” in 1998 and “Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel” in most contests since. The Lok Sabha, the Press Information Bureau and his ministries use “Prof. S P Singh Baghel”.
Police service is reported by the Press Trust of India. His post at Agra College is recorded in his own affidavits.

Police officer and teacher
In the police
PTI reports that he served as a police officer in the security of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and that Mulayam Singh Yadav brought him into politics. India TV gives his rank as sub-inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police. The dates of this service are not on the public record.
At Agra College
His 2019 election affidavit gives his profession as Associate Professor, Agra College, and petitioners before the Allahabad High Court described him the same way in 2017. His 2024 affidavit lists a retirement pension from the post among his sources of income, which indicates he has since retired from the college. Agra College is one of the oldest colleges in Uttar Pradesh and is affiliated to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra.
Other listed professions
The Lok Sabha record describes his professions as “Agriculturist, Educationist, Social Worker”. It also notes a single acting credit: he played a police inspector in the television serial Yeh Kaisa Mission.
